SiLi is a fifth generation family enterprise. Our company philosophy is based on tradition, innovation and sustainability, and we strive for stable, long-term cooperation with our customers, employees and business partners. We have produced and developed high-quality glass beads for over 150 years and grinding media of zirconium oxide and zirconium silicate for over 10 years.
Our quality management, based on DIN ISO 9001, proved itself years ago; we also carry out work and tests in accordance with DIN ISO 15378 for pharmaceutics.
Quality and Know-how
Each production batch runs through a detailed quality check for diameter, sphericity, corrosion behaviour, internal structure and specific weight. Our experience and knowledge in the field of grinding technology has allowed us to establish ourselves as specialists in this field.
Besides the manufacture and distribution of grinding media, we also deal heavily with wet grinding technology.
We even work with attritor mills/pearl mills in our ceramic bead production and seminars, and can therefore offer our customers practical advice and optimise customers’ production processes through appropriate measures.

How to find the right size of grinding media
The best size of grinding media depands on the particle size of the milling product at the BEGINING of the milling process and the desired particle size at the END of the milling proce.
It is to distinguish between:
- Real crushing process and a desagglomeration process
- Easy crushing products: Smaller grinding media are useable
- Tough crushing products: Bigger grinding media are more effectiv
The grinding media should be 2 – 3 x bigger than the separator or filter of the mill (slotted pipe or gap, screen cartridge).
The grinding media should be at least 5 x smaller than the distance between the stirrer disc and the wall of the mill chamber.
The grinding media should be about 20 to 30 times bigger than the particle size of the milling product at the beginning of the milling process (d95).
Feasible average particle size ( d50) of the milling product is about 1/1000 x of the grinding media. Example bead size 2 mm → d50 = 0,002 mm = 2 µm.
