Microplastic-free Bioglitter – Webinar a great success

We would like to thank the large number of participants for the lively response.

The effects of the steadily increasing plastic production on the environment are well known and cannot be overlooked. The health consequences for humans and the environment is still unclear.

It is therefore all the more important to counteract this trend with successful new product development and active environmental protection, as well as paying attention to sustainability within existing and new production.

Glitter is generally a mixture of very small paper, glass, plastic or metal particles and can create a variety of metallic, fluorescent or iridescent effects.

We only speak of bioglitter when it is biodegradable, i.e. when it can be decomposed by microorganisms under oxygen supply into carbon dioxide, water, mineral salts and biomass.

What is the difference between bio-based and biodegradable plastics?

Bio-based plastics are plastics partly produced from biomass, e.g. from corn and sugar cane. Biodegradable plastics, on the other hand, are plastics that decompose under certain conditions, leaving nothing but CO2 and water behind when they break down. Biodegradation is defined as “degradation caused by biological activity, e.g. enzymatic action, resulting in a significant change in the chemical structure of a product.” Biobased plastics can be biodegradable, but often are not. Conversely, biodegradable plastics are not necessarily biobased.

Our Bioglitter is bio-based, 100% plastic-free, vegan and biodegradable in compost as well as in water. The CO2 balance (carbon footprint) is also far better than that of conventional glitter.

The ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) will adopt a new standard on microplastics in 2021. A ban on the marketing of microplastics is planned, which will only be suspended if the release of microplastics into the environment is unavoidable in specific cases. Particles that are firmly bound into the material and are not released into the environment are exempted.

With our different bioglitters, we offer new, vegan, innovative and sustainable products that differ depending on the area of application and to include both Industrial and Cosmetically approved ranges.

Please feel free to ask for information and advice on your own application area.
