Time for a revolutionary filter media
Whether 50-meter lane, whirlpool or little private pool. No sports pool or spa can do without a high-performance filtration system. But not all filter materials are equally suitable for keeping the water clear and hygienic. This also applies to quartz sand and granules. Because of their irregular surface structure, they offer heavenly living conditions for all kinds of germs, fungi and pathogens: In the worst case, they turn the filter that is supposed to keep the water clean into a health hazard. What are the weak points of conventional filter materials?
Pool owners must regularly perform what is known as back washing. During this process, the direction of flow of the water in the filter changes, coarse dirt particles are loosened and drained away via the sewer of the house. The dirty water is then replaced by fresh water. However, algae, germs and smaller dirt particles can never be completely removed from conventional filter materials, even by filter flushing. Therefore, the material must be replaced at regular intervals. In many cases, disinfectants are also used to minimize health risks for bathers. This is not only costly: In many cases, the chemical substances also pollute the environment.
FAQ – Premium Filter Packs
What is the alternative to sand and granules?
The certified and multiple award-winning glass filter beads SiLibeads mark a new era in the cleaning of public and private swimming pools. Not only can they significantly increase the performance of conventional filter systems. Their use also reduces operating costs – and the plant gets a significantly better climate balance.
How do SiLibeads work?
Unlike sand or granules, SiLiBeads Premium Filter Packs have the smooth, even surface like a marble. This means that germs, fungi, algae or bacteria can neither settle nor multiply there: The notorious biofilm does not even develop. Thanks to their even and geometric shape, the Premium Filter Packs also form a much more homogeneous filter bed than conventional filter materials. This not only increases filter performance by up to 25 percent.
How long do SiLibeads last?
Theoretically for a lifetime. Because of their smooth surface, SiLibeads Premium Filter Packs can be cleaned effectively, unlike sand and granules. In any case, the beads need to be changed much less frequently, if at all, than conventional filter materials.
Does the use of SiLibeads reduce operating costs?
Absolutely. SiLibeads clean much better during filter flushing than conventional filter materials. Pool operators therefore save up to 40% percent energy and hot water during cleaning. This effect is further enhanced by the fact that the filter performance of SiLibeads is significantly higher than that of sand or granules, so that fewer backwashes are required overall. In addition, pool operators can largely dispense with the use of additional disinfection and maintenance agents. This also reduces costs.
How sustainable are Premium Filter Packs compared to sand and granules?
The longer SiLibeads are in use, the better their carbon footprint compared to conventional filter materials. Once again, the advantage lies in the longer service life as well as the energy and water savings during filter rinsing. But the sustainability factor also plays a major role in production: The Premium Filter Packs are made from the flat glass that accumulates as production waste, for example in window manufacturing. In this process, Sigmund Lindner GmbH works together with three certified partners.
Are SiLibeads Premium Filter Packs certified to NSF 50?
Yes, the company Sigmund Lindner in Germany is the first glass beads manufacturer in the world to achieve NSF/ANSI/CAN 50 standard certification for our Type S glass beads. This standard was developed by experts from a group of manufacturers, health authorities and users and evaluates the suitability of equipment for swimming pools, spas, hot tubs and other recreational water facilities. This ensures that certified equipment meets the highest standards of performance, such as the health effects of materials, performance, labeling and user instructions. This is achieved through strict test specifications with rigidly defined criteria. For filter media, for example, filtration performance with contaminated water (45 NTU ± 5 NTU), cleaning during backwashing after filtration with contaminated test water, and pressure drop with clean (± 2 NTU) and contaminated water (45 NTU ± 5 NTU) are tested here. In addition to application-related parameters, general material properties such as grain distribution, non-uniformity (Cu) and roundness are also evaluated.
Both, SiLibeads Type S 0.40 – 1.20 mm and SiLibeads Type S 0.50 – 1.00 mm successfully meet the requirements, which is expressed by the receipt of the certificates and the listing on the NSF website. This proves the best suitability of filter pool beads SiLibeads Type S as filter media for swimming pools, spas, whirlpools and similar applications.
